The best event design software for planners and venues, ranked
By VenuePreview, Publisher · Facts checked 2026-10-13
For a planner or venue that needs to design an event space in 2D and 3D and share it with collaborators, Prismm is the strongest event design software on what the vendors publish: it designs in 2D, 3D or both, has a wedding page that covers floor plans, seating and guest lists, and starts with a free plan. Social Tables, its Cvent sibling, suits teams that live inside Cvent. Vectorworks Spotlight is the pick when lighting and stage design matter most, and EventDraw when a large venue wants enterprise diagramming on a quote.
VenuePreview wrote this ranking. VenuePreview sells an AI wedding venue visualizer for couples, a related product, and is listed under considered, not ranked.

What event design software does
Event design software is the drawing board for a function: you set up the room, place tables, stages, bars and lighting positions, then share the plan so the venue, caterer and rental crew all work from the same picture. The serious tools draw to scale, so a 60 inch round really takes up the floor it will take on the night, and most add seating charts so the guest list and the diagram stay linked.
The category splits by who is holding the mouse. Diagramming platforms such as Prismm and Social Tables are built for planners and venue sales teams who design many events a year and need templates, collaboration and client sharing. CAD tools such as Vectorworks Spotlight serve production designers who care about rigging, light angles and stage builds. Venue management suites such as Planning Pod and Aisle Planner put the floor plan inside a larger business system with bookings, contracts or client projects.
None of these tools in this list starts from a photo of the room. They start from dimensions, a traced outline, a professionally drawn plan or a 3D scan, and then build a modeled space you can rotate. That is the right approach when the question is whether 220 guests and a dance floor fit, and a slower one when a couple simply wants to see a style on their booked venue.
How we compared
VenuePreview wrote this page and sells a product in a neighbouring category, which is a bias, so it is not ranked. The list is for people who design events as part of their work: planners, venue teams and production designers.
Every statement about another product comes from that vendor's own pages, read on October 13, 2026. Where a vendor states its own usage numbers or results, we attribute the line to the vendor or leave it out. Where a page is silent on something, we say it is not stated rather than assume it is missing. Prices are typed as listed and will be rechecked by November 13, 2026.
Design depth
Can I design in 2D and 3D, to scale, with the furniture and stage pieces I actually use?
Collaboration
Can the venue, my client and my vendors see or edit the same plan?
Fit for weddings
Does the vendor speak to weddings, or will I be adapting a conference tool?
Price you can see
Is there a public price, a free way to start, and a commitment I can live with?
Decor scope
Does it show linens, lighting or florals, or only furniture positions?
The ranking
Prismm
Prismm, now part of Cvent, lets you design in 2D, 3D or both, from precision floor plans and templates, with real-time collaboration in the cloud. It ranks first because it covers the widest set of buyers in this list: it sells to corporate event planners, wedding planners and venue teams, and its wedding page talks about floor plans, seating, guest lists and collaborating with couples and their in-laws. For capturing the room it recommends 3D scanning early, or entering dimensions and perimeter walls by hand. Prismm also states very large usage numbers; those are the vendor's claims.
- Design in 2D, 3D or both, with templates
- Wedding seating charts and guest lists in the same platform
- A homepage library of 10,000 furniture and design objects, plus table setting design
- Free plan to start: 1 user, 3 events, 2 diagrams per event
- 3D rendering is listed only on Enterprise, and the FAQ calls photo-realistic 3D a customized add-on
- Its floor planning page mentions linen colors but not florals, centerpieces or draping
- The pricing grid and the FAQ disagree on what the free plan includes
Price: Free $0; Standard $49/month or $480/year; Pro $150/month or $1,500/year; Premium $320/month or $3,500/year; Enterprise custom; as of October 2026 (checked 2026-10-13)
Social Tables
Social Tables now describes itself as Cvent Event Diagramming, a collaborative event design platform for planners and venues. You get interactive floor plans, a 3D walkthrough of the event space and visual seating charts with meal management. It ranks second rather than first because its homepage does not speak to weddings or couples, all paid plans carry a 12-month commitment, and 3D rendering appears only on Enterprise. Its planner plans share Prismm's price grid; venue plans add professionally drawn floor plans by square footage.
- Collaborative diagrams with visual seating charts and meal management
- Interactive floor plans and a 3D walkthrough of the event space
- Separate venue plans that include professionally drawn floor plans
- Free plan with 3 events and 2 diagrams per event
- All paid plans have a 12-month commitment
- 3D rendering only on Enterprise plans
- Decor and real venue photos are not mentioned
Price: Planner plans: Free $0; Standard $49/month; Pro $150/month; Premium $320/month; Enterprise custom. Venue plans: Pro $150/month and Premium $320/month; as of October 2026 (checked 2026-10-13)
Vectorworks Spotlight
Vectorworks Spotlight calls itself the industry standard for lighting and stage design software. It covers scenic design, lighting design, event design and production management, and its event design section includes seating and table layouts with 3D renderings alongside 2D drawings. Lighting can be previewed with live rendering modes. It ranks third because it is a professional CAD editor you operate yourself, weddings are not mentioned, and the product page shows no price.
- Lighting, scenic and event design in one CAD tool
- Seating and table layouts with 2D drawings and 3D renderings
- Live rendering modes for lighting
- A free trial from the product page
- A professional CAD workflow with a learning curve
- No price on the product page; purchase goes through distributors
- Linens and florals are not specifically mentioned
Price: No price shown on the product page (Buy Now and Free Trial only); as of October 2026 (checked 2026-10-13)
EventDraw
EventDraw sells enterprise event diagramming to venues, stadiums, convention centres, hotels and universities. It creates 2D or 3D layouts and says its floor plans are accurate to the millimetre; you drag and drop furniture, tables, chairs, AV equipment and props. It shows layout diagrams rather than photos of rooms. It ranks fourth because prices are by quote only and the site barely touches weddings, apart from a navigation link for wedding and conference centres. EventDraw says an event plan takes about 90 seconds on average; that is the vendor's claim.
- 2D or 3D layouts for large and complex venues
- Drag and drop furniture, AV equipment and props
- Built for venue operators who diagram many spaces
- No public prices: request a quote
- Linens, florals and lighting are not mentioned
- Couples and weddings are barely addressed
Price: Request a quote; no public price on the vendor site; as of October 2026 (checked 2026-10-13)
Planning Pod
Planning Pod is venue management software first, with booking, catering, CRM, contracts and payments, and its floor plan module draws to-scale 2D plans and seating charts with full-color PDF layouts. You upload room outlines and trace the walls, then place furniture, architectural items, A/V, lighting, stages and shapes, and you can share a link with clients or invite them to collaborate. It ranks fifth for event design because 3D is not mentioned and the floor plans sit inside a larger venue system rather than a design tool.
- To-scale floor plans and seating charts with PDF output
- Layout elements including A/V, lighting, floors and stages
- Client sharing by link, with staff and vendors editing in real time
- Bookings, contracts and payments in the same platform
- 3D is not mentioned on the floor plan page
- No public price table: the pricing page offers a demo
- Built for venues; couples appear only as the venue's clients
Price: No public price table; its homepage FAQ says most single-location venues pay roughly $199 to $319 per month; as of October 2026 (checked 2026-10-13)
Aisle Planner
Aisle Planner Pro is business software for event professionals that brings clients, team and workflows together, with a client portal that gives clients real-time access to plans and files. Layouts and seating, plus style guides and color palettes, are included in the project tiers along with RSVP websites, timelines, budgets and checklists. A planner on its blog describes getting a floor plan from the venue coordinator, making it to scale, then adding tables, chairs and power before seating guests. It ranks sixth because design is one feature inside a project tool, and 3D is not mentioned.
- Layouts and seating within project tiers
- Style guides and color palettes for client projects
- A client portal with real-time access to plans and files
- A free 30-day trial on every plan, with a card required
- 3D and moodboards are not mentioned
- Layouts are not part of the Sales Essentials plan
- Priced per number of active projects, monthly
Price: Sales Essentials $49.99/month; Up to 15 Projects $69.99/month; 16 to 25 Projects $109.99/month; 26 to 50 Projects $164.99/month; 51 to 100 Projects $229.99/month; as of October 2026 (checked 2026-10-13)
Considered, not ranked
- VenuePreview: VenuePreview is an AI wedding venue visualizer built for couples planning their own wedding. A couple uploads photos of the empty or undecorated venue, chooses a style and colors, and gets visualizations of that venue decorated, which they can share with their planner and vendors. It does not plan seating or where each table goes, and it is not sold as a tool for planners or venues to use for clients, so it is not ranked here.
- Tableplan: Tableplan is a browser seating chart tool with a 2D floor plan, sold per event or monthly to planners. It is a seating and table layout tool rather than event design software, so it appears on our wedding floor plan ranking instead.
Best for each need

It is now Cvent Event Diagramming, with seating charts built in.

Lighting plots, scenic work and event layouts share one CAD file, and lighting can be previewed live.
A large venue with many rooms: EventDraw
It sells enterprise diagramming to venues and convention centres.

Layouts, seating and style guides come with the project tiers.
What to check before you choose
Count your events per year
Free plans here cap events and diagrams, and paid plans are priced per month or per active project. A planner with a handful of weddings a season and a venue with events every weekend will land on very different tiers.
Read the commitment, not just the monthly price
Social Tables states that all paid plans carry a 12-month commitment. A monthly figure on a yearly contract is a yearly cost, so compare totals.
Decide how the room gets into the software
Some tools want you to trace an uploaded outline, some sell professionally drawn plans, and Prismm recommends a 3D scan. Ask the venue what drawings it already has before you pick.
Check where 3D actually lives
Several vendors advertise photo-realistic 3D but list 3D rendering only on enterprise plans. If 3D is the reason you are buying, confirm which tier includes it.
Look for the decor you need to show
Diagramming tools are strongest on furniture positions. If the conversation with a client is about linens, florals or lighting mood, check whether the tool shows them at all, or pair it with mood boards and visualizations.
Questions about event design software
What is the best event design software?
On what the vendors publish, Prismm, because it designs in 2D, 3D or both, supports collaboration in the cloud, covers weddings directly, and starts with a free plan. Vectorworks Spotlight is stronger if lighting and stage design are the core of the job.
Is there free event design software?
Prismm and Social Tables both list a free plan for 1 user with 3 events, 2 diagrams per event and 150 attendees per list. Vectorworks Spotlight offers a free trial from its product page, and Aisle Planner offers a free 30-day trial with a card required.
Are Prismm and Social Tables the same product?
Both are now Cvent products. Prismm's homepage says it is part of Cvent, its free sign-up links lead to a Social Tables portal, and the two share the same planner price grid.
Which event design software does 3D?
Prismm designs in 2D and 3D, EventDraw creates 2D or 3D layouts, and Vectorworks Spotlight produces 3D renderings. Prismm and Social Tables list 3D rendering only on Enterprise plans, while Planning Pod's floor plan page does not mention 3D.
Which one is best for wedding planners?
Prismm speaks to wedding planners directly, with floor plans, seating and guest lists on its wedding page. Aisle Planner suits planners who want layouts inside full client projects with timelines, budgets and RSVP websites.
Can event design software show decor such as florals and draping?
Mostly not on the pages we read. Prismm mentions linen colors and table setting design, Planning Pod lists lighting as a layout element, and Vectorworks Spotlight renders lighting, but none of these vendors mentions florals.
Where does VenuePreview fit?
Outside this category. VenuePreview is an AI wedding venue visualizer for couples: they upload photos of their venue, choose a style and colors, and get visualizations of it decorated to compare options before spending on decor. That is why it is listed under considered, not ranked.
How much does event design software cost?
As listed in October 2026, Prismm and Social Tables run from a free plan to $49, $150 and $320 a month, Aisle Planner's project tiers start at $69.99 a month, Planning Pod says most single venues pay about $199 to $319 a month, and EventDraw quotes on request.
