The best wedding color palette generators, and how to test your palette on your venue
By VenuePreview, Publisher · Facts checked 2026-10-13
Coolors is the best wedding color palette generator for most couples: it builds palettes on demand, picks colors from an image, previews a palette in sample layouts, and works on a free plan. Adobe Color is the better choice when you want to pull a palette out of one photo you love. If you have no idea where to start, The Knot's style quiz proposes a palette from pictures you like. A swatch strip still is not a room, so VenuePreview ranks fourth as the way to test a shortlisted palette on photos of your own venue.
Five tools for choosing wedding colors, ranked on how they suggest a palette, whether they read colors from your photos, what they cost, and whether you ever see the colors in your venue.
VenuePreview wrote this ranking, and VenuePreview is one of the products ranked.

How this ranking was made
Searches for a wedding color palette generator land mostly on single-purpose tool pages, and plenty of couples add a brand to the search, such as The Knot or Zola. We took the tools that showed up in that evidence and in our competitor research, read each vendor's pages in October 2026, and used only what those pages state.
The ranking rewards the job the searcher has in mind: getting from no colors, or too many colors, to a palette of two to five that works together. Generators that do this directly rank highest. VenuePreview does not generate palettes, so it ranks behind three tools that do. It earns a place because the next question after choosing colors is how they look in your room, and that is the part a swatch cannot answer.
Prices are typed as each vendor listed them on the day we checked, and they are due for a recheck in November 2026.

The ranking
Coolors
Coolors bills itself as a fast, intuitive color palette generator for designers, creators and anyone seeking visual harmony. Beyond the generator it offers an Explore section that Coolors says holds over 10 million palettes, an Image Picker, a contrast checker, a Palette Visualizer that drops colors into sample layouts, and an AI Color Bot. It has no wedding section, but none is needed: the free plan already generates palettes of up to five colors and picks colors from an image. That breadth, at no cost to start, is why it leads.
- Palette generator plus Explore, Image Picker and a Palette Visualizer
- Color Bot, which Coolors labels as now with AI
- Free plan with palettes of up to 5 colors and color picking from an image
- Pro adds Coolors AI credits, no ads, palettes of up to 10 colors and every Palette Visualizer layout
- Web, iOS, a Figma plugin, a Chrome extension and Adobe extensions
- Its pages do not mention weddings, so wedding naming and context are up to you
- The free plan saves only 10 palettes in 1 project and shows ads
- The Pro monthly web price was not readable in the page HTML when we checked
Price: Free plan; iOS Coolors Pro $4.99 a month or $35.99 a year; a Forever plan shown at $99 one-time beside $149 (as of October 2026) (checked 2026-10-13)
Adobe Color
Adobe Color is now presented as an Adobe Express page, and it remains a strong set of free color tools: a color wheel, a contrast checker, palette and gradient extraction, and a feed of trending palettes. Its page invites you to create a custom palette by extracting colors from images you love. For a couple holding one photo of a bouquet or a bridesmaid fabric, that is the quickest route to a matching palette. It ranks second because it suggests less than Coolors and pushes you toward a paid plan to apply palettes to designs.
- Color wheel for building harmonies by hand
- Extract a palette or a gradient from an uploaded image
- Explore and browse trending palettes and curated combinations
- Palettes save to a Creative Cloud library for use in Adobe Express
- Automatically applying palettes to designs requires a paid plan
- No mention of weddings or events on its page
- Now served inside Adobe Express, so the experience follows that product
Price: Free to start; applying palettes to designs requires a paid plan (as of October 2026) (checked 2026-10-13)
The Knot Style Quiz
Searchers add The Knot to this query, and its Wedding Style and Vision quiz explains why: according to its page as indexed by search, you heart or reject photos, and the results give a one word style, a proposed color palette, invitations and inspiration images. That makes it the only tool here that starts from taste rather than from colors. It ranks third because you cannot edit or extend the proposed palette inside the quiz, and because theknot.com blocked our direct reads, so these details are from search snippets.
- A photo picking quiz that proposes a color palette
- A style word, invitations and inspiration images alongside the palette
- Part of The Knot's free planning app
- No palette editing or image picker described
- Details come from search index snippets because theknot.com returned HTTP 403 to our fetches
- No venue photo redecoration tool was found in the snippets reviewed
Price: Part of The Knot's planning app, described as free (as of October 2026, from search snippets) (checked 2026-10-13)
VenuePreview
VenuePreview is an AI wedding venue visualizer. It does not invent a palette; you bring the colors your generator or quiz suggested. You upload photos of your empty or undecorated venue, choose from pre-made style templates and color schemes, and receive visualizations of that venue decorated in the colors you picked. Because you can compare different color schemes for the same room, two shortlisted palettes can be set side by side before you order linens or brief a florist. It ranks fourth here because generating the palette is the job this page is about.
- Starts from photos of your own empty or undecorated venue
- See your venue decorated in the style and colors you choose
- Compare different color schemes and styles for the same venue
- Share visualizations with your partner, planner and vendors
- Most visualizations are delivered within 10 to 25 minutes of submission
- One-time packages; Luxury adds custom style requests
- Does not generate or extract a palette: you choose the colors
- Each package covers a single venue upload; for more customization, contact hello@venuepreview.com for a tailored package
- Visualizations are for comparing options, so confirm exact shades with physical swatches from your florist or rental company
Price: $19 one-time for 40 venue visualizations; up to $49 one-time for 200 venue visualizations (checked 2026-10-13)
Milanote
Milanote is not a generator, but its Wedding Moodboard template is built to collect color schemes next to inspiration, venue ideas and props, and it supports color swatches, your own photos and comments from collaborators. Once a palette is chosen elsewhere, it is a tidy place to pin the swatches beside the flowers, linens and photos they need to match. It ranks fifth because it holds a palette rather than helping you find one.
- Color swatches on the same board as photos, clippings and notes
- A ready wedding moodboard template
- Collaborators can comment, and boards export to PDF
- A free plan with no time limit
- Does not suggest or extract colors
- The free plan caps you at 100 notes, images or links and 10 file uploads
Price: Free plan with no time limit; $9.99 a month per person billed annually, or $12.50 billed monthly (as of October 2026) (checked 2026-10-13)
Considered, not ranked
- Pixa: A Pixa wedding color palette page appeared in our October 2026 search results, but pixa.com now shows a placeholder that sends visitors to Pixelcut, and its wedding generator pages return 404.
- Canva: The Canva pages we reviewed covered mood board templates and AI photo editing, not a palette tool, so we had no palette facts to rank it on. It is ranked on our mood board page instead.
- Zola: Searchers pair Zola with this query, but the Zola pages reviewed show no palette tool or style quiz; its style help is an expert advice article with 13 core styles and 130 decor ideas.

No colors in mind at all: The Knot Style Quiz
It proposes a palette from photos you pick.

What to check before you choose
Start from something fixed
The venue's walls, floor and chairs are colors you cannot change. Photograph them first and build the palette around them, not against them.
Keep it to three, plus a neutral
Generators happily give five or ten colors. Wedding decor reads better with two or three main colors and one neutral for linens, so trim before you fall in love with all of them.
Pull from a real object
An image picker is most useful with a photo of something you will actually use, such as a fabric sample, a stationery card or a flower variety in season.
Check the colors at the hour of the party
Daylight and candlelight shift colors. Ask the venue for photos of past evening events, and read our wedding lighting ideas before you settle on pale tones.
Test on the room before you order
Two palettes can look equally good as swatches and very different on tablecloths in a dark-floored hall. Compare them on your venue in VenuePreview, then confirm shades with physical swatches.
Name the colors for vendors
Save the hex codes or names and share them with your florist, rental company and stationer, so everyone works to the same palette. Our guide to sharing your wedding vision with vendors covers the rest of the brief.
Questions about wedding color palette generators
What is the best wedding color palette generator?
Coolors, for most couples. It generates palettes, picks colors from an image and previews them in sample layouts on a free plan. Adobe Color is better for extracting a palette from a single photo.
Is there a wedding color palette generator from an image?
Yes. Coolors has an Image Picker and Adobe Color can extract a palette or a gradient from an uploaded image. Use a photo of something you will really use, like a fabric or a flower.
Does The Knot have a color palette generator?
The Knot's Wedding Style and Vision quiz proposes a color palette along with a style word and inspiration images, according to its page as indexed by search. It is part of The Knot's free planning app.
How many colors should a wedding palette have?
Two or three main colors and a neutral is a common, workable size. More colors can work, but each one has to show up somewhere in the flowers, linens or paper, which gets expensive.
How do I know how a palette will look in my venue?
Swatches cannot show that. VenuePreview starts from photos of your empty or undecorated venue and shows it decorated in the colors you choose, so you can compare two palettes on the same room.
What does VenuePreview cost?
VenuePreview sells one-time packages for a single venue: $19 one-time for 40 venue visualizations, $29 one-time for 100 venue visualizations and $49 one-time for 200 venue visualizations.
Should the palette match the venue or the season?
The venue first. Season matters for flower availability and mood, but the walls, carpet and chairs are in every photo, so a palette that clashes with them is hard to rescue.
